Our school participates in a range of interschool sports throughout the year. These include swimming, cross country, athletics and a variety of summer and winter sports on Friday mornings.
At the start of the school year students nominate to attend the school swimming tryouts. From there they have the opportunity to represent our school at the Moorabbin Primary School Sports Association (MPSSA) swimming carnival.
During term two all students in grades three to six begin training for the cross country. At the school cross country students run in their allocated age groups and run the required distances – 9/10 year olds run 2km and the 11 and 12/13 year olds run 3km. After this event students are selected to race at the MPSSA cross country which is held at Karkarook Park.
All the events of high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus and running races are taught to the students in grades three to six. In the lead up to the school athletics carnival students improve their skills and on the day complete all events in their age group to earn the right to represent the school at the MPSSA athletics carnival.
Summer & Winter sports competitions
During the summer interschool sports competition students select a sport they would like to represent the school in. These sports include – Kanga cricket, cricket, girls and mixed softball, rounders, tennis and circleball. During the summer terms of one and four our school competes against one of the seven other schools in the MPSSA on a Friday morning to ultimately decide the district representatives for each sport.
For the winter sports competition, each child chooses to be a part of the football, soccer, Spikezone, Tee-ball, basketball or netball teams. Once again students play each Friday morning against other schools to ultimately decide the district representatives for each sport.
As a smaller school in the district we feel we really compete above the average. In the past years we have achieved many different awards, which include:
