Principal's Message

Dear wonderful EBPS families,

Welcome to Week 7 of Term 2

As winter settles in, and the leaves on our welcome tree take on a warm yellow and fall to the ground, our school grounds have taken on a different kind of beauty. The gardens are quieter, the mornings a little crisper, and there is a sense of calm that arrives with the season.

Rudolf Steiner once wrote:

"In the depths of winter lies the promise of renewal."

Winter invites us to slow down, reflect, and nurture the things that matter most. In schools, this often means deeper learning, stronger connections, rich storytelling, creativity, and a focus on building warmth through community and relationships.

While the days may be colder, there is something very special about the warmth that exists within our classrooms and across our school community.

Thank you to all families for your patience as we continue to undertake important building works around the school, particularly the concreting works at the front of the school. While these projects can occasionally create some inconvenience, they are helping us improve our facilities and create even better spaces for our students into the future.

With the colder weather now well and truly here, families may wish to send a coat and a pair of gumboots to keep at school for their child. As Taylah (our Garden Specialist) has recently communicated, this helps ensure children can continue to enjoy outdoor learning experiences, gardening activities, and play opportunities regardless of the weather.

King's Birthday Public Holiday

A reminder that this Monday 8 June is the King's Birthday Public Holiday. There will be no school for students on this day. We hope all families enjoy the long weekend and the opportunity to spend some time together.

Open Classrooms

Over the past few weeks many of our classes have welcomed families into their classrooms as part of our Open Classroom program.

Thank you to all of the teachers who have opened their learning spaces and shared the wonderful work taking place across the school. We have received very positive feedback from families who appreciated the opportunity to see learning in action and gain a deeper understanding of their child's school experience.

One of the strengths of EBPS is the strong partnership between home and school, and opportunities like these help strengthen those important connections. We always love welcoming families into our classrooms and sharing the incredible work our students are doing.

Mid-Winter Festival

Our much-loved Mid-Winter Festival (Preps to Year 4) is fast approaching and will take place in Week 10 - Tuesday 23rd June from 4:30pm onwards.

Please keep an eye out for further communications over the coming weeks, as there will be plenty of information shared about the event and how families can become involved.

The Mid-Winter Festival is one of the most special events on our school calendar. It provides an opportunity for our community to come together during the darkest part of the year to celebrate light, warmth, connection, and hope. The festival reflects many of the values that sit at the heart of our school community — belonging, creativity, tradition, and togetherness.

For many children and families, it becomes a treasured memory and a highlight of the year. We look forward to sharing this magical evening with our community once again.

Assistant Principal Appointment

I would like to begin by sincerely thanking Janette Grunfelder for acting in the Assistant Principal role while we undertook the recruitment process for Semester 2.

Janette has been absolutely invaluable during this period. Her calm leadership, professionalism, deep knowledge of our school, and unwavering support of students, staff, and families have been greatly appreciated. On a personal level, I would like to acknowledge just how thankful I am for everything Janette has done over the past few weeks.

I am pleased to advise that we have now completed the recruitment process and successfully appointed a new Assistant Principal, who will commence on 12 June.

I look forward to formally introducing her to our community in the Week 9 newsletter. She brings with her a wealth of experience across a range of educational settings, along with a genuine interest in Steiner education, which will be a wonderful addition to our school.

These events are also included in our Compass calendar.

As always, thank you for the ongoing support you provide to our school community. The partnership between families and staff is one of the things that makes EBPS such a special place, and I continue to feel grateful for the kindness, care, and support that exists throughout our community.

I hope everyone enjoys the long weekend ahead, stays warm, and takes the opportunity to enjoy some family time.

Warmest regards,

Sarah Spence
Principal
