Principal's Message

Dear Families,

It has been another busy and joyful few weeks at EBPS, and I continue to feel incredibly grateful to be part of such a warm and supportive community. I have been spending as much time as I can visiting classrooms and chatting with students, and it is always the highlight of my week. There is so much wonderful learning happening across the school, and it is a privilege to see the curiosity, creativity and kindness of our students every day.

Building works update

There has been an enormous amount of work completed at EBPS over the past 12 months. Many families may not realise just how much has been happening behind the scenes. Our kindergarten has been refurbished, five rooms at the end of the main building have been upgraded, stumps have been replaced, new blinds and carpet have been installed, trees have been removed and landscaping completed, and more recently a significant portion of our sewer infrastructure has been replaced.

You may also have noticed the repairs to our basketball court. For some time we had been seeing growing holes appearing in the surface. When the builders investigated, they discovered that a very old tree root had been running underneath the court. As the root died and collapsed, the ground above it began to sink. We have now resurfaced part of the court and will soon have new court lines painted.

The next works you will notice include the replacement of drinking taps (bubblers), additional new blinds in the main building and some general beautification of concrete areas around the school.

Looking ahead, I am also currently applying for funding for a new toilet block and am waiting to hear whether we have been successful in receiving funding for a new main building. There are many exciting possibilities ahead for our school. Thank you sincerely for your patience as we continue improving the facilities that support your children’s learning.

Volunteers

We are currently preparing to launch a renewed volunteer system at EBPS which will support the important work that volunteers do across our school. Volunteers play a truly valuable role in school life. Whether it is helping in classrooms, supporting events, assisting in the garden or listening to children read, the time and generosity of our community makes a meaningful difference for students.

When finalised, the new system will allow us to create a pool of volunteers who can be called upon to support classrooms and school activities. Even small contributions can make a big impact — something as simple as listening to our junior students read helps build confidence and strengthens learning.

If you have a little time available and would like to contribute, please consider volunteering. We are deeply grateful to the many families who already support our school in this way.

From the Captains

Starting in the next newsletter, we will be introducing a new section called From the Captains. Our school captains play an important leadership role in representing the student voice and helping shape the culture of our school. Through this section, they will share updates about what is happening at EBPS from the students’ perspective.

Student leadership is an important part of building confidence, responsibility and community spirit, and I look forward to our captains sharing their insights and experiences with you.

Steiner fees

A gentle reminder that Steiner stream fees are required to be paid in full by the end of Term 1 unless you have arranged a payment agreement with me.

These contributions support important aspects of the Steiner program that are not funded through the Department of Education, including specialist programs, materials and experiences that form part of the Steiner educational approach. These fees allow us to maintain the richness and authenticity of the Steiner stream that many families value so highly.

If you have any questions or require a payment arrangement, please contact me directly and we can work together on a suitable plan.

A little teaser…

At our next assembly we will be sharing some exciting news about a project we have been quietly working on behind the scenes. It involves student creativity, imagination and a chance for our students to help shape something new for EBPS.

I won’t say too much just yet — but let’s just say that some students may soon have the opportunity to design something that will represent a brand new voice for our school. Stay tuned!

Communicating with the school

Both Michelle and I always enjoy hearing from families and appreciate the strong communication we have with our community. As you can imagine, the role of principal and assistant principal can be very busy, and our inboxes can sometimes receive a very large number of emails each day — occasionally more than one hundred.

To help us respond as efficiently as possible, if you need to communicate something related to your child’s learning or classroom matters, please contact your child’s teacher directly in the first instance and only include leadership if needed. This helps ensure teachers can respond quickly and allows Michelle and I to focus on the matters that require our attention.

Thank you for helping us keep communication flowing smoothly for everyone.

Second-Hand Uniform Stall - is back!

Please check out the stall at our Thursday Market each week - if you need to purchase some uniform! Open from 3:30pm-4:00pm.
Thank you to school parents Megan and Melanie who took the initiative and kindly offered to sort out the donations and set up this new stall.

*These events are also included in our Compass calendar.

It continues to be a wonderful start to the year and I feel very lucky each and every morning I am driving to school. If you see me at the front gate in the mornings, please do stop and say hello.

Warmest regards,
Sarah Spence
Principal

REMINDER - school drop off times

We have noticed several students arriving at school very early and waiting unsupervised.

Please be aware that staff supervision does not begin until 8:45am.

Students should not be on school grounds before 8:45am unless they are with a parent or carer.

The exception is our Breakfast Club which starts at 8:15am and is a supervised space where students can enjoy some breakfast and start the day calmly before class. Students attending Breakfast Club are welcome to arrive for this program, but must stay in the PAC.

Thank you for your support in helping us ensure the safety of all students.
