Principal's Message

Dear Families,

It’s hard to believe we’ve already reached the end of Term 3! This term has been rich with learning, connection, and joyful moments. We’ve had everything from the 3/4 Camp at Creswick, to Book Week celebrations, Sports Day, incursions, working bees, and creative performances. I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of you — staff, students, and families — for the energy, kindness and support you continue to show each other and our school. It has been a long term, and a cold one, but it’s truly taken a village to keep everything growing, and I couldn’t be more grateful for our community.

Today also marks a special personal milestone — it is one year since I began my journey as Principal at East Bentleigh Primary School. What a truly wonderful year it has been! I feel incredibly lucky to lead such a vibrant and kind community. I’ve made friendships I value deeply, and every day I feel privileged to work alongside our incredible staff and students. The warmth and care shown to me, and to one another, is something special. Thank you to everyone — from parents and volunteers to students and staff — for making this first year so meaningful. I am very proud of all we’ve achieved together and excited for what’s still to come.

Celebrating the Arts and Languages

This week we were treated to some outstanding student performances in both our French and Dance programs. The French plays were engaging and creative, and gave students a chance to showcase their developing language skills in front of their peers. We also had vibrant dance performances from our Class 3 and Class 5 Steiner students, choreographed and led by our talented dance teacher Rosie. A huge thank you to Rosie for her work supporting students to move with confidence, creativity, and joy. The performances were a highlight of the week and truly showcased the spirit of our students.

Some Highlights

Recently we welcomed an exciting Wildlife Exposure incursion to EBPS. It was an unforgettable experience! Students were completely engaged as they learned about native Australian animals, reptiles, and the vital role these creatures play in our ecosystem. Some students even had the chance to hold a huge python — a moment they won’t soon forget. These rich, real-life learning opportunities are an important part of our school experience.
Our Sports Day was a tremendous success, filled with excitement, movement, and colour. Students proudly wore their house colours and gave it their all in the events. It was heartwarming to see the way students encouraged each other and celebrated one another’s efforts — true examples of our school values in action. Congratulations to all students who participated, and a special shout-out to those who qualified to represent EBPS at the MPSSA Athletics Carnival on September 8th. We are proud of you!
A huge thank you to the PCFA for running the beautiful Father’s Day craft sessions this term. It was such a joy to see students thoughtfully creating something special for their Dads or significant people in their lives. We are incredibly lucky to have such supportive volunteers at EBPS — your time and efforts help make these moments possible and enrich our students’ experience every day.

Building Works Update

Our building upgrade project continues to make excellent progress. Many of our refurbished classrooms have already been reopened and are looking fresh, warm and welcoming. The transformation at the front of the main building is particularly impressive — it’s shaping up to be a bright, functional and beautiful space. We are still awaiting a confirmed start date for the new playground installation, but I will keep you informed as soon as we know more. Thank you again for your continued patience while we work towards the best possible facilities for our students.

Looking Ahead to Term 4

We have some exciting new initiatives launching in Term 4, so please keep an eye on Compass and our newsletters next term. One small way you can help now is by collecting plastic bottle caps — any size or colour! We’ll be using them for a sustainability-focused project next term. Students can bring them to school and drop them off with their classroom teacher.

PCFA: Supporting Our Staff and Students

We are so fortunate to have such a generous and involved parent community at EBPS. A huge thank you to the PCFA for not only running our Father’s Day craft sessions (which gave students the opportunity to create thoughtful gifts for their dads or special people), but also for organising cooked meals for staff returning from the Creswick 3/4 Camp. This beautiful gesture was so appreciated and meant a great deal to our hard-working teachers who had just spent several days supporting students away from home. We are incredibly lucky to have this kind of support — it really does make all the difference.

Please note - you can ALSO view the latest School Calendar at any time on Compass - you can choose to view it by day, week, month or term and also choose what you want to include by clicking on the layers you want to view, ie: School Events, Public Holidays etc.

Wishing you all a safe, restful and warm holiday break. Thank you again for your unwavering support, kindness and energy throughout Term 3. I can’t wait to welcome everyone back bright and early on Monday 6th October, ready to launch into a joyful and productive Term 4 together.

As always, my door is open.

Warm regards,
Sarah Spence
