No.2 - T3/2025

Principal's Message

Dear Families,

As the weather begins to warm up, there’s a noticeable lift in energy across the school. Students are out and about enjoying the sunshine, playing games, and embracing outdoor learning opportunities with enthusiasm. A special thank you to Paul Bolmat, who has been running lunchtime soccer sessions — the joy on the students’ faces as they kick a ball with their friends has been a lovely sight to see.

Term 3 is always a full and vibrant one, and we already have many exciting things underway. Please take a moment to catch up on this fortnight’s updates.

Buildings and Grounds – Big Changes at the Front!

Wow — what a transformation is happening at the front of the school! The works are progressing quickly, and it’s already starting to look fantastic. We expect to have access back to the refurbished rooms in the coming weeks, and I’ll continue to keep you updated on timelines as I receive them.

I know many of you are keen to hear about the playground — I’m still working on getting a confirmed date for its installation and apologise for the delay. As soon as I have information to share, I will.

While we’re on the topic of grounds — how wonderful is our new play tractor in the Prep play area? Thank you to everyone who helped bring this charming and much-loved addition to life!

Craft

I’ve been lucky enough to spend some time in our Craft classes this term, and it’s truly been a highlight of my week. I remember my own children attending craft when they were at Steiner school and how proud they were of these creations – I still have them all at home! The focus, care, and pride our students show in their work is remarkable. Just this week I joined 5A and was so very impressed by their beautifully hand-stitched elephants — each one a unique and thoughtful creation. It’s moments like these that remind me how special our students are here at EBPS.

Free Eurythmy Sessions for Parents

We are again pleased to offer a free three-session Eurythmy class for parents and carers this term. This is a wonderful opportunity to engage with a key element of Steiner education, connect with others in our community, and enjoy the calming, expressive benefits of movement and rhythm. Please see the attached flyer for session details and registration information.

Welcome to Jemima – Instrumental Music Team

We’re thrilled to welcome Jemima to our Instrumental Music Team this term. Jemima brings with her a wealth of experience in music education and will be working with our students in cello and double bass. Welcome to EBPS, Jemima — we’re lucky to have you on board!

Reviewing Our School Values – SWPBS in Action

This term, we’ve been doing significant work with staff and students to review and refresh our school values, guided by the School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) approach.

As a former SWPBS coach, I know firsthand how explicit, shared values and clear expectations can create a school environment that is not only safe and respectful but also rich in learning and growth. School values should ideally be revisited every 5–6 years to ensure they reflect the current community’s beliefs and hopes for its children — and that time has come for EBPS.

With staff and students, we’ve drafted a new set of school values based on what we all believe is important and what these values look like in action. These values will guide not only our behaviour but also how we teach, learn, and care for one another.

Very soon, I’ll be inviting you — our parent and carer community — to give your feedback on these draft values. Your voice is essential. As partners in education, we want to ensure our school values are inclusive, meaningful, and representative of who we are as a community.

Once finalised later this term, we’ll begin explicitly teaching the values through weekly lessons and shared conversations with students — helping every child understand how they can contribute positively to our school culture.

I look forward to growing and strengthening EBPS together with you.

Thank you once again for all the ways you support our school — whether it’s helping in classrooms, showing kindness at drop-off, volunteering behind the scenes, or simply the myriad of other things you do to support your children and EBPS.

As always, my door is open and I welcome your questions, thoughts, and ideas.

Warm regards,
Sarah Spence

Invitation : Curative Eurythmy sessions for parents & carers

You're Invited: Introduction to Curative Eurythmy – A 3-Session Parent & Carer Experience

We are delighted to offer all East Bentleigh Primary School community — whether part of our Steiner or mainstream streams — a special opportunity to participate in a three-session introduction to Curative Eurythmy, led by trained Curative Eurythmist Jenny Kuznetsova.

We are fortunate to be able to offer this to you free of charge!

Eurythmy is an expressive movement art developed as part of Steiner education. It brings together gesture, language, and music in a unique way that supports wellbeing, coordination, focus, and inner balance. For adults, it offers a reflective and embodied experience that many find calming, enriching, and revitalising.

These sessions are designed as a sequential series, meaning each session builds on the one before. For this reason, we kindly ask that participants commit to attending all three sessions to gain the full benefit of the experience.

Session details:

Day:        Thursdays – 23rd Oct, 30th Oct & 6th Nov
Time:      4:00–5:00pm
Where:   Performing Arts Centre, East Bentleigh Primary School

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing, and bring something warm if the weather is cool — movement will be gentle but active.

Places are limited, and we encourage early registration to avoid missing out.

Register here: https://forms.office.com/r/5U4sthvFne

** Please note that these sessions coincide with our Thursday market and as such we kindly ask to arrange for your children to be supervised by an adult if you are attending the classes.

We hope to see you there for this unique opportunity to experience Curative Eurythmy in a warm and welcoming group setting.

Warm regards,

Sarah Spence - Principal
