East Bentleigh Primary School acknowledges the traditional owners of the land on which we work and learn, the Boon Wurrung people. We pay respect to their elders, past, present and future for they hold the memories, traditions, cultures and hopes of Aboriginal Australia.
Dear Wonderful EBPS community,
We’ve reached Week 9, and as the term nears its end, I want to take a moment to reflect on what a truly wonderful community we have here at East Bentleigh Primary School. Whether it’s the smiles I see in the schoolyard, the parent helpers in classrooms, or the generosity at events, I feel incredibly lucky to be a part of this special place.
Mid-Winter Festival Success
What a beautiful evening we shared at this week’s Mid-Winter Festival. It was heartwarming to see students singing with joy, walking the spiral so thoughtfully, and gathering as a community to mark the Winter Solstice — a moment of reflection, warmth, and inner light. In Steiner education, the Winter Solstice represents turning inward, nurturing our inner light during the darkest time of year, and celebrating the slow return of the sun.
A very special mention goes to our Grade 6 students, who modelled our school values so gracefully as they brought the light to classrooms in the morning. Thank you to all who helped make this evening so magical:
I also want to express heartfelt thanks to the wonderful students who helped Jane and me clean up the next morning — I am so proud of you!
Emergency Drill – Next Week
A quick heads-up that we’ll be running an emergency drill later next week. There is no need to take any action, but please be aware that we will be preparing students beforehand to ensure the process is smooth and minimally disruptive.
These drills are a routine part of our emergency management procedures and help us all stay prepared and safe.
Outdoor Learning Space Nearing Completion
Our new outdoor learning space near the BER building is almost complete, and it is looking fantastic!
This thoughtfully designed space will offer students an opportunity to learn, reflect, and collaborate in the fresh air and amongst nature. Outdoor learning has been shown to boost wellbeing, creativity, and engagement, and we are thrilled to soon offer this to our students.
A huge thank you once again to Michelle Mather for overseeing the build, to the PCFA for raising the funds, and to our wider school community for making it all possible. We can’t wait to see it come to life.
Friday Assemblies – Families Welcome
A gentle reminder that we run our whole-school assemblies every second Friday at 3pm (with the next one on the coming Friday), and families are always welcome to attend.
These assemblies are a chance to come together, celebrate student achievements, and watch our student leaders shine. The experience of leading assemblies helps grow their confidence, public speaking skills, and sense of agency — all vital elements of a strong and capable student voice.
Our School Value Focus – Respect
We are continuing our focus on the school value of Respect. Over the coming weeks, we are talking with students about what respect means, what it looks like in practice, and how we can each play a part in creating a respectful environment.
This includes showing respect to each other, our teachers, the school environment, and ourselves. Please consider continuing this important conversation with your child at home — the more we reinforce these messages together, the more they mean to students.
Thank you to Abby & Tempura Japanese Cafe!
We would like to thank Abby and her team for providing EBPS with fresh and delicious sushi lunches since 2013! Unfortunately, they are unable to continue this service and next Friday will be our last Sushi Friday.
Don't forget to put in your order for the last time - by next Thursday morning.
