East Bentleigh Primary School acknowledges the traditional owners of the land on which we work and learn, the Boon Wurrung people. We pay respect to their elders, past, present and future for they hold the memories, traditions, cultures and hopes of Aboriginal Australia.
Hi everyone. What an incredible week we have had. I feel so lucky to be able to work at our wonderful school, and have really enjoyed meeting more families this week, and getting to know everyone.
There is lots of news this week, and lots to look forward to ahead.
Colour Run
Well what a fantastic time we all had at the Colour Run on Thursday. It was incredible to see all the enthusiasm, smiles, encouragement and support of each other. Each year level ran around our course, with staff spraying water, and coloured powder much to the excitement and laughter of students. It was lovely to watch students help each other through the course, cheer each other on, and celebrate together. A big highlight was the ‘sliming’ of staff. Students lead the chant of ‘slime, slime’ followed by a number of staff having huge buckets of blue slime tipped over them. My shoes are still full of slime and my hair multi-coloured even after multiple showers – the students had a good laugh at that today.
A huge thank you to the Parents, Carers and Families Association (PCFA) who arranged the event. You are an incredibly appreciated part of our community, and we are all very thankful for what you do. Our students raised in excess of $28,000 dollars!
Prep 2025 Transition Days
Dear 2025 Preps, welcome to our beautiful school.
Today we held our first transition day for students coming to EBPS in Prep. Our new Preps had a great time with their new teachers, and made some new friends along the way. It can be overwhelming for some new students coming from Kinder into the big world of Primary School, so if any of our students pass our new Preps next Friday, please make them welcome.
Steiner Orchestra
On Wednesday, we were treated to an impressive performance by our Steiner Orchestra led by our wonderful music teachers.
Students from Class 3 - 6 performed in their Class Orchestras and our Upper, Lower and Extension ensembles also showcased what they have been working on this Semester. They played a range of pieces, including modern and classic. The older adults at the performance loved ‘Enter Sandman’ by Metallica – it sounded incredible being played on strings and I saw quite a few Dads nodding along to it.
Well done everyone, and a big thank you to our music teachers who work so hard to teach our students at such a high level.
Working Bee
Our next working bee has been postponed. Apologies for the change at late notice. We will let you know the new date as soon as we can. We have a very supportive community, and I thank you all for your continued support to grow our beautiful school.

Have a wonderful weekend.
Kindest Regards,

Main Lesson/Literacy – 4AR
We are currently learning about the structure of the human being. The form of the animals is explored in connection to movement and habitat. This is being experienced through story, poetry, drawing, painting, movement and beeswax modelling.
The students wrote an information report of the octopus. It included the subheadings relevant to the genre of an animal information report.

Numeracy in 1/2P and 1/2H
Year One and Two students in our classes will spend the second half of Term Four revising concepts across the maths strands: Number, Algebra, Measurement, Space, Statistics and Probability. These photos are a quick snapshot of our classroom over the last few days.
Thursday Market
The Year One and Two students will soon be selling their wares at the Thursday Market. They are very excited to set up their own stall and have all been busy getting everything ready. We would love it if you could support them in the coming weeks.

Wellbeing 5/6 Mainstream
Our school uses the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships program for teaching Social and Emotional Learning and Respectful Relationships.
Year 5
This term, the Year 5 topic looks at Problem Solving which includes acknowledging when we have a problem, exploring ways we can deal with and identifying what works to solve it. This week, Year 5 were given multiple relatable scenarios such as forgetting to bring your lunch to school or a friend asking for the answer during a test. We listed all the possible solutions and then chose the most appropriate way of solving the problem.
Year 6
This term, the Year 6 topic looks at Positive Gender Relations which includes identifying gender-based violence, understanding power relations and showing active respect in peer relationships. This week, Year 6 explored these areas through the Robot and Controller game.
Robot and controller game.
The game is played in where one person is the robot and the other is the controller. The controller stands opposite the robot and raises their hand with their palm facing the robot’s face. The robot must keep their nose the same distance from the controller’s hand at all times. The controller signals through hand movement where they want the robot to move as they take the robot for a walk around the room. The controller may move the robot forward or backwards, up or down, as they progress around the room.
Students took turns in each role and then participated in an open discussion about power relations. The words dominant and submissive were introduced and discussed.
