East Bentleigh Primary School acknowledges the traditional owners of the land on which we work and learn, the Boon Wurrung people. We pay respect to their elders, past, present and future for they hold the memories, traditions, cultures and hopes of Aboriginal Australia.
Hi families and community of EBPS,
Another wonderful week has passed with many exciting things for our students.
As I stand at the front gate every morning, saying hello to students and families, I am always reminded of how friendly and positive our students are.
Our Class 6 legacy project is coming along, you will have noticed a tree on our front wall – watch this space as the tree grows and fills the wall.
Colour Run
Congratulations are again in order! We have reached some major milestones in our fundraising and now, not only am I getting slimed, so is our Drama teacher Paul. Keep fundraising everyone, and the sliming will continue!!
Dress up day
An impressive stream of costumes and silly socks came through our gates Thursday, and what creative kids we have. There were dinosaurs, dragons, wizards with wands, superheroes and silly socks, and much more. Staff also got into the fun, with all kinds of characters turning up to teach. We are still not sure if Jane in the office knew it was dress up day when she wore two different shoes.
Prep Swimming
Preps have had a wonderful time at swimming this week at Toby Haenen Swim Centre. I’m sure they will be tired and ready for a weekend rest. Well done Preps!
Assembly
Another invitation to attend our wonderful assemblies every 2nd Friday. This week another French play entertained the school, and we heard a beautiful rendition of Blackbird by the Beatles. Our music team do a fabulous job of teaching our students and the results are very impressive. Please drop in to our next assembly on 15th November and help us support our students.
Have a wonderful long weekend. We will see students back at school on Wednesday after Cup Day.
Kindest Regards,
Sarah Spence
COLOUR RUN NEWS
Our Colour Run is coming up in just two weeks.
Event day is Thursday November 14th from 2pm on the school oval.
Thank you so much for your support so far, the enthusiasm and excitement has been fantastic. We have already raised $15,000 towards our goal of $20,000 to go towards the redevelopment of our outdoor areas and play spaces! At this rate we may even smash our target which would be an amazing achievement!
As promised there have been milestones and incentives along the way. Congratulations to our icy pole party winners so far, 1/2H for most profiles created in the first week and 1ES as our current top fundraising class. We have our new Principal and two teachers being slimed so far.
There are more incentives over the next week, another icy pole party up for grabs and the leading individual fundraiser getting to be Principal for the morning. There is also a random draw competition on Nov 11th. Any student who has raised over $150 will go in the draw to win a Clay Kit from Cones Studio in Bentleigh. Not to forget, more $5,000 milestones met will mean more teachers being slimed!
It’s not too late to create a profile or start fundraising, sign up on funrun.com.au. The greatest part is if you are unable to donate yourself, you can share the link to family and friends. It is strongly encouraged that all fundraising occurs through the online link, although you can be as inventive as you like to encourage people to donate.
If you are unable to sign up or fundraise you will still be able to participate in the Colour Run, no one misses out!

Writing practise in our Botany Main Lesson - Class 5T
In the span of two weeks 5T has advanced our story line skills and we have been using the SWBST chart (Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then) to further enhance our writing skills, it is a simple storyline but an effective one. Somebody (main character) wanted (has a goal), but (they run into a problem), So (they find an answer to the problem), Then (ending). We’ve been using the chart in our Botany Main Lesson, where we have written sentences about plants such as algae, fungi and lichen.
‘Helpful, gives more to work with’ (Noah)
‘Helpful to write the base of the story’ (Casper),
‘Helps put random ideas into a good story’ (Stevie)

Numeracy in Grades 3 / 4 Mainstream
Over the past two weeks, the Year 3/4 Mainstream classes have dived into the world of fractions with an engaging and colourful flag-design activity. Students used their creative flair to create unique flags and then worked out the fractions of squares they had coloured in. This practical exercise was an excellent way for students to understand how fractions represent parts of a whole.
After determining the fraction for each colour used in their flags, students challenged themselves further by writing equivalent fractions. This skill-building task not only helped them visually understand fractions but also improved their confidence in applying mathematical concepts in a fun, hands-on way.
We are proud of their hard work and look forward to seeing these skills continue to develop!
