East Bentleigh Primary School acknowledges the traditional owners of the land on which we work and learn, the Boon Wurrung people. We pay respect to their elders, past, present and future for they hold the memories, traditions, cultures and hopes of Aboriginal Australia.
Dear Families,
I hope you have all had a lovely week!
It has been wonderful to see everyone settling back into the routines of Term 4. There is certainly plenty happening around EBPS, and with the end of the school year approaching, I know the coming weeks will be busy ones for students, staff and families alike.
I have really enjoyed spending time around the school, visiting classrooms and chatting with students. One of the things I love most about EBPS is the genuine sense of community we have here. Whether it is children looking after one another in the playground, families helping with school activities, or our staff going that little bit further to support a student, there are so many small moments that make our school such a special place.
Congratulations to Hugo!
A very special congratulations to Hugo Brewer, who was recently presented with an award by our local Member of Parliament, Nick Staikos.
It is always lovely to see our students recognised and celebrated, and we are very proud of Hugo and his achievement.
Thank you also to Nick Staikos for taking the time to visit our school and recognise the wonderful things our young people are doing. These moments mean a great deal to students and their families, and it is always a pleasure to celebrate their successes. Well done, Hugo!
Welcome to School Council, Linda!
I would also like to extend a very warm welcome to Linda Duong, our newest member of School Council.
School Council plays such an important role in the life of EBPS. Our councillors generously volunteer their time to help guide the strategic direction of our school, support planning and school improvement, and represent the interests of our wider community.
It is a significant commitment, and I am very grateful to all our councillors for the time, energy and care they contribute.
Thank you, Linda, for putting your hand up to be involved. We look forward to working with you!
Also thank you to all those who nominated, we are currently working through a process to engage further members into School Council.
Mango Fundraiser – Last chance to order!
Our Mango Fundraiser is back!
Following the wonderful response last year, we are again offering families the opportunity to purchase delicious mangoes while supporting our school.
Fundraisers like this are a lovely example of our community working together. They help us provide additional opportunities, resources and experiences for our students, and every contribution makes a difference.
Orders close on Monday 26 October, so please make sure you place your order before the deadline if you would like to participate.

Student wellbeing and belonging
One of our continuing priorities at EBPS is ensuring that every child feels safe, connected and supported at school.
This year we have continued to strengthen our wellbeing supports, including the work of our Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader and school psychologist, who are each working with us three days per week.
Alongside this, our ongoing Berry Street Education Model work is helping staff strengthen positive relationships, predictable routines and approaches that support students with their learning and emotional regulation. We will be, as a school next year, revitalising our Berry Street Education Model work to further support all our students.
I strongly believe that children learn best when they feel safe, understood and connected to the people around them. Our aim is always to make EBPS a place where every child feels that they belong.
Looking ahead to 2027
Behind the scenes, we are already doing a great deal of planning for next year.
This includes our class structures, staffing, learning programs, student transitions and the many other things that go into preparing for a new school year.
There is always a great deal to consider, particularly in a school with both Mainstream and Steiner streams, and our priority is to ensure we make thoughtful decisions that best support our students.
We will continue to keep families informed as our planning progresses, particularly around transition arrangements and opportunities for students to become familiar with their new learning environments.

These events are also included in our Compass calendar.
Please click here to download the Term 4 calendar.
*PLEASE NOTE*
We have a student free day planned for Monday 2nd November (the day before Cup Day) for staff to undertake their Professional Practice Day work.
Term 4 is always a particularly exciting time in a primary school. Alongside the learning happening in classrooms, there are celebrations, special activities and opportunities for our students to reflect on just how much they have grown throughout the year.
For our Year 6 students, it is also a very special time as they begin preparing for the next chapter of their education. We want their final weeks at EBPS to be filled with positive memories and a real sense of pride in all they have achieved.
We also have some wonderful community activities being planned for later this term, and I will share further details as arrangements are confirmed.
Thank you, as always, for your continued kindness, patience and support. I know how busy family life can be, and I genuinely appreciate the many ways our families contribute to making EBPS such a welcoming and caring place.
I feel very fortunate to be part of this community and to work alongside such dedicated staff, wonderful students and supportive families.
As always, my door is open, and if you see me around the school or at the front gate, please do stop and say hello!
Warmest regards,
Sarah Spence
Principal

Dear EBPS Families,
Spring has well and truly arrived at East Bentleigh Primary School, with some absolutely glorious days enjoyed across our school this week. It has been wonderful to see students making the most of the sunshine and our beautiful school grounds.
Active Paths - Thursday 29 October – 8:15am
We are excited to take part in Active Paths next Thursday morning! Students and families are invited to walk, ride, skate or scoot to school alongside Jade, Sarah, Pete or a representative from Bicycle Network.
Arrange to meet your friends at the beginning of one of the four routes, or join the group as it passes along the way. Parents and carers are warmly encouraged to come along too. It will be a fun and active way to begin the school day together and of course we will have some breakfast snacks available at 2 points in the school on arrival.
Grade 5 and 6 Visit Melbourne Museum
Our Grade 5 and 6 students had an amazing time at Melbourne Museum, where they explored the exhibition ROME: Empire, Power, People.
Students had the special opportunity to view remarkable and priceless artefacts from the Roman Empire, bringing their learning to life and deepening their understanding of this fascinating period in history. Thank you to the staff and parent helpers who supported this valuable excursion.
Celebrating Hugo Brewer
Last week, we were also delighted to welcome our local Member for Bentleigh, the Hon. Nick Staikos MP, to East Bentleigh Primary School.
Mr Staikos presented Hugo from Grade 6 with this year’s Lorraine Francis Community Award in recognition of the dedication and hard work he has demonstrated through his involvement with Scouts.
Congratulations, Hugo! This is a wonderful achievement, and our entire EBPS community is very proud of you!
Bentleigh Farmers’ Market – This Saturday
A reminder that our monthly Bentleigh Farmers’ Market will be held this Saturday. With Spring in full bloom, there will be an abundance of seasonal specialities, freshly picked and locally sourced produce, as well as some new snacks and beverages to enjoy.
A QR code for the PFCA Mango Fundraiser will also be available at the entry gates, making it easy for families to place an order.
Come along, enjoy the atmosphere and stock your fridge and pantry with delicious seasonal produce. I hope to see you all there!
