Dear EBPS Community,

It is wonderful to see the term well underway, with classrooms full of purposeful learning and students enthusiastically embracing the many opportunities that make life at East Bentleigh Primary School so special. There is certainly a great deal happening across the school this term, and it has been lovely to see our students continuing to demonstrate kindness, curiosity and perseverance in everything they do.

As always, thank you for the ongoing support you provide our school. Strong partnerships between home and school make an enormous difference to children's learning and wellbeing, and I continue to feel incredibly grateful to be part of such a caring and connected community.

Welcoming New Staff

This week we are delighted to officially welcome Katerina Kaczmarek to our teaching team. Katerina joins us as the teacher for 34R on Thursdays and Fridays, bringing with her a wealth of teaching experience gained across a variety of educational settings, including overseas. We are thrilled to have Katerina join our community and know she will be a wonderful addition to our staff. Please make her feel very welcome if you see her around the school.

I would also like to officially welcome Peter Sneddon, who has now joined us as our additional Assistant Principal.

Peter brings extensive leadership experience and a genuine passion for building positive relationships with students, staff and families. His appointment provides our school with additional leadership capacity to continue strengthening our work in teaching and learning, student wellbeing and school improvement. We are delighted to have Peter as part of the EBPS team and know our community will make him feel very welcome.

NAPLAN Results

By now, families of students in Years 3 and 5 should have received their child's NAPLAN results.

NAPLAN provides one snapshot of a student's learning at a particular point in time. It measures skills in literacy and numeracy against national benchmarks, but it is only one piece of information that schools use to understand student progress.

At EBPS, we look at NAPLAN alongside many other forms of assessment, including classroom observations, work samples, teacher judgement and ongoing assessment throughout the year. Together, these give us a much richer picture of each child's learning and help us identify where they are succeeding, where they may require additional support, and how we can best challenge them to continue growing.

Every child learns differently and progresses at their own pace. While NAPLAN can provide useful information, it is never used to define a student's potential or worth. Our focus remains on supporting every child to make strong learning growth from wherever they are on their learning journey.

Working Bee tomorrow - Sat. 1st August 9am-1pm

Our school working bee is on tomorrow from 9am. We will be concentrating on improving our Chicken coup area. If you are available and would like to help - even for only a short while - please feel free to come along. Thank you

Student-Free Day – Friday 7 August

A reminder to families that we have a planned Professional Practice Day (PPD) on Friday 7 August. This will be a student-free day.

Our staff will spend the day continuing our work on school improvement, professional learning, and strengthening our teaching practices to ensure we continue providing the very best educational opportunities for every student.

100 Days of Prep

On Thursday we celebrated a very special milestone — 100 Days of Prep!

It was wonderful to see our Prep students embracing the occasion with so much enthusiasm. Many arrived dressed as though they were 100 years old, complete with glasses, walking sticks, grey hair and cardigans, while others creatively incorporated the number 100 into their outfits. The smiles and excitement throughout the day were simply delightful.

Reaching 100 days of school is a significant achievement for our youngest learners. Over those first one hundred days they have developed friendships, grown in confidence, learnt countless new skills, and become valued members of our school community. It is always amazing to reflect on just how much children grow in such a short period of time.

Congratulations to all of our Prep students on this wonderful milestone, and thank you to our Prep teachers and families for helping make the day such a memorable celebration.
